Speaker 1:

Give that one a whirly McBurly burly, All right. Well, welcome to our weekly snackable and delicious content, Easier Weekly Curiosity, where Mia and I sit down and have a chat about some questions that we get in the Facebook group, in our DMs and that we have for each other, that we share with you in a really delicious snackable. Yum yum, yum, yum, yum, bite-sized way. What's up, Mia? Did you say curiosity, right? What's up, Mia? Did you say curiosity? Right, I did. And I didn't even stop to be like, hey guys, I did it, I just kind of like went with it. So I need to match them more often.

Speaker 2:

Let's get into it A little bit of a different one today on personal branding. Which Kristen will handle this one because she's bloody the bomb at personal branding. This question is what does personal branding mean to you? I feel like it means different things to different people.

Speaker 1:

Great question. Let's have a chat. Yes, so I come from this in a different standpoint than I know. I've seen a lot of people do personal branding kind of things online and I kind of got myself into it. Oh, maybe I'm doing it wrong, hang on a minute. But I've been in this space online for over 10 years. I've built businesses in here.

Speaker 1:

But one thing that I know when it comes to a personal brand is a personal and a business brand to me are interconnected, and when you build a business brand, you think about the marketing, what it looks like, how it sounds, the tone of voice, the messaging, the connection piece, the consistency across all platforms. That's what you think about when you think about a brand or as a brand manager or a marketing person, that's what you need to be able to do. Now, a personal brand is exactly the same thing. They are interconnected. If you think about your personal brand like a business brand, it will make a little bit more sense.

Speaker 1:

So for me, that means your personal story, it means your energy, it means your tone of voice, it means the way you you rock up, and that does mean not so much how you dress in a really superficial way, but there is parts of that that you need to think about in terms of building a personal brand with power. There's your story, the messaging, the consistency, how you do show up online. If you think of that inconsistency, if you think right now of somebody that you follow online, I'm wondering and I'll ask you, mia, because you're live with me and anybody else that's at home, answer this one to yourself who's somebody right now you can think of, and I want you to explain to me who they are, by their appearance and their vibe, and what made you think of them?

Speaker 2:

Well, I'm going to give you one product I guess he wears and you'll know exactly who I'm talking about the nose breather thing in the nose, hamosi, who's that?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, just by saying that thing on his nose. I didn't even have to say his name or what he does. It's just that's part of his personal brand, even though it's just kind of this random thing, and it's not like he's like he just wears a banger, like a wife beater and that thing on his nose, and it's not like he's so rich but he doesn't have to get dressed up or like that's just him and that's his personal brand.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and it's about you know those things that I'm sure there are people that you can think of straight away, that there's something about them, and sometimes it can literally be an energy. Like you're scrolling and all of a sudden somebody pops up on your screen like, oh, oh, I love this creator. Like they give you a feeling, a vibe. And for me, when it comes to building a personal brand and years ago when I first I was made redundant from my corporate job so my background is brand and marketing I was made redundant and I moved into just a nothingness and I remember that I went to a business chicks event and I went by myself because I was like, okay, I have to get out of this rut. Like I'd spent days crying about the fact that I'd lost my 10 yearyear corporate job and what was I going to do? No one's going to hire me, I'm not good enough. The whole story right.

Speaker 1:

And I walked into this event and I dress like I have this very. I dress how I need to feel, and so for that event, I can tell you exactly right now what I was wearing. It was a blue jacket, a blue like a really nice kind of blue, lighter blue underneath top, a pencil skirt with colors on it, blue shoes. At the time I had really short peroxide blonde hair and so I could tell you that outfit because I knew that that's how I wanted to feel when I walked into that room anyway. So I get there, I walk in alone, I'm standing with this woman and she says to me oh so what do you do? And I was like I don't, I don't have a job. And she was like oh, and like there was this like wave of pity that ran over her face and I instantly was like it kind of hit me instantly and I was like hang on a minute. That's like this is not a bad thing.

Speaker 1:

And anyway, I just kind of blurted out this story about what my vision was and what I wanted to do in terms of becoming, you know, someone that's going to help women understand their brand and build their business and create a personal brand that's powerful. And it just kind of like vomited out my mouth and she was like that is incredible, that sounds amazing. Please let me know if you need anything, I'm more than happy to get you started. And she gave me a business card. By the end of the night I had 20 business cards because I had women finding me in that room Like so-and-so said I had to talk to you. So-and-so said that you've got this great vision.

Speaker 1:

I was like whoa, and it was that night that I think I decided what a personal brand was, and that was when you step and you lean into who you are and you show up with an energy that is contagious to people, something that leaves people wanting to know more. They're just so fucking curious about you because you've given them something, a feeling, a vibe, a message or something. And so, for me, that is the essence of a personal brand. It's telling a story that creates connection in a way that isn't showboaty, it's not about what you wear, but there's something in the whole energy field for me that when you can get that right, people will remember you for a reason, and it's usually a feeling that they get from you as well as visual creatures.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, when you met me, you said I really loved your personal brand, and because I didn't really have much experience with any of that, I'm like, oh really, I'm just like this random that posts on TikTok anything that I think of at the minute and I didn't understand that what I was doing was building this personal brand online For me. I was just rocking up on TikTok but unknowingly building this authentic. This is just me, this is what I'm doing, but that was actually building my personal brand.

Speaker 1:

Exactly and what you were doing in that is, every time you turned up, I always knew what I was going to get when I saw your content. So there'll be creators that you'll come across that you kind of they're not memorable because they've not given you a feeling You've not had. There's nothing memorable about them that would make you think I remember that person where, even if you go, oh, I remember her.

Speaker 1:

Remember she had that like orange thing on the wall, like if there's something like that, that person has given you something. And that, to me, is the personal brand. That to me is you're building this connection piece with people that, if you get it right, it is unstoppable.

Speaker 1:

And that to me is is like fucking magic, like I just thrive off helping women uncover how they sprinkle their magic without being, um, yeah, showboaty and in your face and you don't have to be like I'm I'm loud, I'm very bright, but part of my personal brand is I do that because if I walk into a room and there's somebody that feels really uncomfortable, that's maybe a bit of a wallflower, that's anxious and doesn't know anyone, I want to be the person that that person finds and goes oh my gosh, I love your shoes. Oh, how are you?

Speaker 1:

So I want to be that ice breaking connection piece and it doesn't bother me to be that and that's part of a personal brand for me. So I think, yeah, online people have a very different concept of what I think a personal brand is and certainly what I'm trying to help our members really understand about their personal brand and there's a power in being memorable for something especially in a world of social media where it takes two seconds to scroll past someone and there's millions of creators, millions of videos, so someone can remember.

Speaker 2:

They don't have to remember your name, like I don't remember heaps of names, but I remember people from what they've said or what they've worn or how their content comes across. And that's powerful because, especially like you could type into tiktok you a chick that wears pink all the time, like you just never know what's going to come up. It could be you, but people have that association with you and yeah, like a name kind of isn't that relevant on a content platform especially?

Speaker 1:

Yeah. So if that sparked curiosity because I know these are bite-sized snackable pieces. Like I said, we talk about this inside the community, but if you're now thinking, okay, how do I build a personal brand, what I want you to do is really think about it as if you were about to start a new business. So I want you to think, okay, what's the story? What's the message? What's my tone of voice? What's my image Like? What's the image like? What's the logo you are the logo like? Start to think of that. What? How do I want people to feel after they've spent some time with me? So think about it that way and that will help you craft you.

Speaker 1:

You have a personal brand. The second you hit record on a video. You're building a personal brand. But if you're unsure of what yours is, that's what I'd say is really to me a personal brand and a business fan, exactly the you know. At the end of the day, you want to build a good reputation and that's what you're doing. So just break it down like. That would probably be my biggest nugget of gold to drop if you want to learn how to build a powerful personal brand. That's it and we're done for this week. Check the podcast. There's so many good ones too.
